When trying to attract new clients for your photography business, testimonials are a very powerful marketing tool. What OTHERS have to say about your photography business is a lot more powerful than what YOU have to say about it. If you aren’t using testimonials, you should be. Here are some tips on getting them and using them in your photo business:

  • Ask for testimonials. Don’t be shy about this. Call up some recent clients and ask for a testimonial. Happy clients will more than likely be willing to do this for you. If needed, offer them a free print in return. Make sure to ask them if it is okay to use their full name along with the testimonial.
  • Use the client’s full name whenever possible. This makes the testimonial more “real” and believable.
  • Use the testimonials on your website. If possible, use one of the client’s images to go along with the testimonial (make sure you have a model release).
  • Use testimonials in your marketing literature such as brochures and sales letters.
  • If anyone sends you an email or calls you to tell you how happy they are with their portraits, ask them right away if you can use what they said as a testimonial.
  • Include a “request for testimonial” form along with each finished portrait package you deliver. Promise the client a free print of their choice when you receive the finished testimonial.
  • Use quotation marks around the testimonial
  • Make sure you have testimonials from each type of photography client you want to attract (seniors, brides, new moms, etc.)
